5/18/2019 - Southbury Garden Club’s 19th Annual Plant Sale

The Southbury Garden Club’s 18th Annual Spring Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, May 18th at the gazebo on the Green at 775 Main Street South from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., rain or shine.

The sale will feature unique annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs and hanging baskets suitable for both sun and shade. Most are local or CT grown, and many are deer resistant. Colorful flowers are an excellent way to draw birds, butterflies and honey bees to your yard, unlike bird feeders which also appeal to our area’s growing bear population.

Despite this spring’s late arrival, plant sale customers may plant their purchases directly into their gardens, because May 17th is the official “last frost date” for our area.

One of the sale’s most popular features is the wide array of plants from members’ own gardens. These plants are especially suited to local conditions and feature varieties not readily available at garden centers and nurseries.

Because of the increased interest in growing family food organically, this year's sale will include a wide assortment of veggies and herbs.

Club members, many of whom are certified Master Gardeners, will share gardening tips, assist in choosing suitable plants and discuss individual gardening problems.

The Bake Shop will feature member-baked cakes, pies, cookies and snacks which can be brought home or eaten as customers shop and the raffle will include a unique assortment of prizes.
