11/21/2019 - Monthly Author Conversation at Arts Escape - How to Publish

Researching and choosing the best publishing method for one’s book is a huge decision made complicated by the ever-changing landscape of traditional publishing and self-publishing. Independent presses and partnership or hybrid publishers all offer methods for getting an author’s work out there, but is the purpose or end result always the production of a quality product? The goal of this panel is to clarify the options and provide resources for those writers and authors interested in exploring their publishing alternatives. Steve Parlato will be joining our two writing instructors for the afternoon discussion. Steve is a novelist and poet - also Professor of English at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where he serves as faculty adviser to award-winning student newspaper, The Tamarack, and is moderator for the College’s literary event, Confluencia. Parlato’s first fiction manuscript won a 2011 CT Shoreline Arts Alliance Tassy Walden Award. Upon The Namesake’s 2013 publication, Publishers Weekly called Parlato “a name to watch.” Steve has led writing workshops at several CT venues and has presented at literary events in Pennsylvania and Texas. His second novel, The Precious Dreadful, was released by Simon & Schuster, in February 2018. Follow Steven online at and on Twitter @parlatowrites.
