10/23/2019 - Town Clerk: November 5, 2019 Municipal Election

The electors of the TOWN OF SOUTHBURY are hereby warned to meet at their respective polling places in said Town on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, for the following purpose:

I. To cast their vote for First Selectman, Selectmen, Board of Finance, Board of Finance Alternates, Board of Assessment Appeals, Planning Commission, Planning Commission Alternates, Zoning Commission, Zoning Commission Alternates, Zoning Board of Appeals, Zoning Board of Appeals Alternates, Inland Wetlands Commission, Inland Wetlands Commission Alternates, Pomperaug Valley Water Authority, Regional Board of Education.

II. To vote on the following questions for the approval or disapproval of proposed revisions to the Charter of the Town of Southbury, a vote of “YES” being a vote for approval, and a vote of “NO” being a vote for disapproval:

  1. Shall the revised Town Charter, with the exception of the proposed amendments to Section 301 and 202 A, and the changes to the titles of the First Selectman, Board of Selectmen and Selectmen, in the form filed with the Town Clerk on August 29, 2019, and thereafter published as required by law be approved? 
  2. Shall the proposed revisions to Section 301, which does not allow votes cast for an unsuccessful candidate for First Selectman to be counted as votes for that candidate as a member of the Board of Selectmen, be approved?
  3. Shall the proposed revision to Section 202 A, which changes the term of the First Selectman and Board of Selectmen from two years to four years with staggered terms, be approved?
  4. Shall the proposed revision throughout the Charter, which changes the titles of the First Selectman, Board of Selectmen and Selectmen, to First Selectperson, Select Board, and Selectperson, be approved?

The proposed changes to the Charter are available at the Town Clerk’s Office and the town website

Notice is hereby given that the location of the polling places is as follows:

#3 Community Building 561 Main St South

Voting tabulators will be used. The polls will be open at six o’clock in the morning (6:00 A.M.) and will remain open until eight o’clock in the evening (8:00 P.M.).

Central counting of absentee ballots will be conducted in Room 201. Election Day Registration is in Room 105, Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488.
