Local painter Betsy Rogers-Knox has been painting and drawing since childhood. Inspired by her English grandfather and his love of gardens Betsy has focused on illustrating plants and their habitats. She often follows the full lifecycle of a plant for a full year before beginning a painting. She received a Certificate in Botanical Illustration from the New York Botanical Garden in 2006 and has been illustrating plants ever since. Betsy’s art exhibit will be in the Gloria Cachion Art Gallery from May 2, 2018 through May 30, 2018.
Betsys work has been shown widely in the US and was exhibited in London at the Royal Horticultural Botanical Art Exhibition 2016 where she was awarded the prestigious Silver Gilt Award for her series of paintings titled The Lifecycle of the Milkweed and Monarch. Her work has been exhibited at the 11- 20th American Society of Botanical Artists Annual International Exhibitions in NYC and is currently in Out of the Woods:Celebrating Trees in Public Gardens Exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden and Botanical Art Worldwide: Americas Flora opening May 4 at the US Botanic Garden in Washington, DC.
Betsy teaches Botanical and Natural Science drawing and watercolor to all levels at her studio in Bethlehem as well as other classes and open studio, all listed on her website rogersknoxart.com. She also teaches at the New York Botanical Garden in Bronx, NY , The White Memorial in Litchfield Ct and Hollister House in Washington Ct.
The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to 5:30 pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am to 9:00pm, Saturday 9:30am to 4:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
