8/30/2019 - September Wednesday Movies and Evening at the Movies at Southbury Library

Movies are being shown at Southbury Public Library this month on three Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 PM, the first Thursday evening at 6:00 PM, and the second Thursday evening film at a special time of 5:00 PM. These are offered free to the public and do not require registration; all have closed captions available.

The Wednesday films begin on September 11th with a 1939 film that still casts its spell on its 80th birthday. Blown away from their Kansas home, Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her faithful dog Toto are soon joined by some interesting companions as they march along the Yellow Brick Road to a magical land.

It’s back to reality on September 18th with a film by documentarian John Chester showing the work he and his wife did carrying out a seemingly naïve plan: to develop a farm that would be totally in synch with nature on 200 unforgiving acres in southern California. It took 8 years of struggle, 200 different crops and a large variety of animals, including a pig and rooster who became good friends.

On September 25th Diane Keaton stars in a comedy about a group of women who form a cheer-leading squad at their retirement community, proving that you’re never too old to “bring it!”

Showing on Thursday evening September 12th at 6:00 PM is a semi-biographic story about a young woman, Savannah Knoop, who spent 6 years pretending to be a celebrated author. The author, however, was actually the made-up literary persona of her sister-in-law, Laura Albert, a well-known writer. Kristen Stewart and Laura Dern star. This film is rated R (for ages 17 and up only unless accompanied by parent or guardian).

On September 26th, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) are among those assembling to once more restore balance to a universe left in ruins after the devastating events of Infinity War. Running time for this film is 3 hours, 1 minute; starting time will be 5:00 PM.

All the films have closed captioning. Because of licensing and copyright agreements, the Library cannot list the titles. For further information call 203-262-0626 ext. 130 or visit the website at or
