10/30/2019 - November Wednesday Movies and Evening at the Movies at Southbury Library

Southbury Public Library will be showing movies this month on three Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 PM and one Thursday evening at 6 PM. These are free and open to the public; no registration is required. All have closed captioning.

On Wednesday November 13th Rosalind Russell stars as the free-spirited aunt of a young orphan who comes to live with her after his father dies unexpectedly. Her life style doesn’t sit well with the executor of the father’s estate, and young Patrick’s life is somewhat chaotic. Eventually the aunt marries a wealthy oil man, played by Forrest Tucker, and they all embark on a whirlwind world tour. This 1957 film was the first of several screen and stage adaptations of Patrick Dennis’ novel.

The November 20th film features a golden retriever owned by an aspiring Formula One race car driver. Through his bond with his owner, the dog learns that techniques needed on the race track can be used to successfully navigate the journey of life, which, for the driver and his wife, becomes a difficult one. Kevin Costner provides the dog’s voice; Milo Ventimiglia plays the driver and Amanda Seyfried his wife.

Ushering in the holiday season, the November 27th film is the perennial starring James Stewart as George Bailey, a desperate businessman considering ending his life when an angel is sent from Heaven to show him what life would have been like if he had never existed. Donna Reed plays his wife, and Lionel Barrymore is the villainous business associate who causes George’s distress.

The Thursday evening film, on November 14th, concerns a young black man who has been arrested for the murder of a white classmate and his father, a lawyer who fights to vindicate his son. Against all odds, they embrace their undying trust in each other and find faith. There is no second evening movie in November because of Thanksgiving. No movies will be shown at the Library during December.

All the films have closed captioning. Because of licensing and copyright agreements, the Library cannot list the titles. For further information call 203-262-0626 ext. 130 or visit the website at or
