The Town of Southbury has declared a local state of emergency. At approximately 5pm on the evening of May 15, 2018, a tornado came through the town. At the height of the storm, the town had approximately 135 road closures resulting from downed wires and trees. Currently, a majority of the roads are difficult or impassable. Additionally, the town is close to 100 percent without power.
At approximately 11:30 pm on May 15, 2018, the Region 3 Emergency Planning Team arrived in town.
At an emergency joint meeting of the Board of Selectman and Board of Finance held at noon today, they concurred with the declaration of the local state of emergency.
