Does your roof leak? Are your windows drafty? The Town of Southbury has received a grant from Connecticut’s Department of Housing and HUD to make health and safety improvements to the homes of eligible low-to-moderate income residents.
The program provides 0% interest, deferred payment loans to make health and safety improvements to the homes of eligible applicants. The loans are not due and payable until change of title to home.
Eligible repairs include roof, window, or siding replacement; electrical and heating system upgrades; septic system repair; handicap accessibility; lead paint removal; basement drying, and other code corrections.
Applicants must satisfy four criteria to be eligible:
- be up to date on local taxes;
- have 10% equity in home;
- be low-to-moderate income by HUD standards (e.g. an income not exceeding $50,350 for a single person household; or $71,900 for a four-person household); and
- have homeowners insurance.
