On Wednesday, July 22nd, the Southbury Public library will begin the next phase of its reopening plan and reopen to the public for limited hours, service, and building capacity. In order to maintain patron and staff safety, visitor capacity will be limited to 25 at one time and only the first floor will be open to the public. Patrons are asked to limit their visits to one person per family/household wherever possible and to please plan for short visits no longer than 30 minutes. For public and staff protection, masks are required to be worn at all times and social distancing of at least 6 feet needs to be observed. Hand sanitizer will be provided at the Main Entrance and at other popular locations including the checkout desk. Staff will be cleaning throughout the day in keeping with current best practices and to ensure staff and patron safety. While the second floor Youth Services department will remain closed at this time, children’s and teen library materials can be requested from home for convenient pick up as hold items at the First Floor Circulation Desk.
Available services include picking up holds, checking out materials, and browsing in the stacks. Patrons will need to follow directional signs, arrows and barriers. All magazines will be available for checkout but not for browsing or use while in the library. The public copier, scanner and print station will be available and staff will assist at a distance. Exact change is requested. Four first floor public computers will be available for 30-minute time periods, one session per person, per day. Computers will be cleaned after every use.
Online eBook services will continue to be available on the library’s new website www.southburylibrary.org/ebooks. Patrons are encouraged to use the online library card application for new cards and to call the library for renewal of cards. Virtual programs for all ages will continue to be offered.
In place of Pickup window service, anyone who is not able to enter the library for any reason, is asked to please contact the Reference Department at 203-262-0626 x 130 for an alternative service.
The book return inside the building will not be available; patrons are asked to return all items to the outside book return. All returned items are quarantined for the recommended 72 hours before they can be checked out again.
The fax machine, self-checkout machines, study tables, lounging chairs, water fountains, coffee machine and meeting rooms will not be available. The Friends book sale area in the lobby will not be available.
The Library's hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30am - 4:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30am - 6:30pm.
