Senior Transportation Information


Bus Reservation Policies and Procedures

  • Please call the Transportation Department at 203-262-0652 to schedule rides in and out of town (Dial-a-Ride).
  • Calls for rides must be made 2 business days in advance of the desired ride date, by 10:00 AM.
  • Transportation calls will only be taken between the hours of 8:30-4:00 PM Monday-Thursday and 8:30-12:30 PM on Friday. . Voicemails/calls made outside of these hours will not be addressed until the following business day.
  • Pick up time confirmation calls will be made between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM the day before the scheduled ride. Please note all pick up times are approximate and we will make every effort to pick up and drop off passengers in a timely fashion.
  • Reservations may not be made further than two months in advance.
  • Only one round trip to a single destination, per passenger, per day is permitted.
  • Transportation for in town rides are available between 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM Monday-Thursday and Fridays 9:00 AM-12:00 PM.
  • Appointments for out of town (Dial-a-Ride) rides MUST conclude by 2:00 PM.
  • Appointments for in town rides MUST conclude by 3:30 PM Monday-Thursday and by 12noon on Friday.
  • Unless a senior is calling to cancel a ride, changes to a planned ride will not be honored.
  • Seniors are required to contact Transportation Department at (203) 262-0652 as soon as they become aware of a cancellation.

Basic Transportation Policies and Procedures:

  • Riders must be 60 years of age or a disabled resident of Southbury.
  • Passengers do not need to be senior center members.
  • Only certified service animals are permitted on the bus.
  • Transportation from skilled nursing facilities is prohibited.
  • A ride can and will be provided to surgical procedures, however transportation can NOT be provided from a surgical procedure in which anesthesia (other than a local) is administered.
  • A passenger may have an aide accompany them free of charge.
  • Drivers are not permitted to carry groceries nor accompany riders to their residence. Curb to curb service only will be provided.
  • Drivers will wait a maximum of 5 minutes for the passenger to be at bus before moving to their next pick up.
  • Drivers will NOT stop for passengers that try to wave down bus. Drivers will not pick up and transport passengers that are not on their passenger list.
  • All passengers are required to be seated with seat belts fastened at all times.
  • For the well-being of all passengers and drivers we ask for courteous and polite behavior, appropriate personal hygiene and compliance with all guidelines.
  • The driver reserves the right to deny transportation if one’s behavior or hygiene poses a risk to others.
  • There is a five (5) bag maximum for shopping trips.
  • Drivers do not carry cash or sell punch cards nor take reservations or cancellations. All reservations or cancellations must be handled through the Transportation Department.
  • No food or drink is permitted on bus besides water.
  • Drivers cannot accept tips.
  • Cancellations will be televised on WTNH 8 and WFSB 3. You may also call the Center after 8:00 AM for a recorded message.

Appointments are prioritized in the following order:

  1. Doctors’ appointments
  2. Medical Clinics
  3. Physical Therapy
  4. Grocery Shopping
  5. Senior Center
  6. Personal Care appointments: Salons, Barbers etc.

Fares for Rides Around Southbury

All round trip.

  • All rides to/from any municipal building in Southbury (Senior Center, Town Hall, Southbury Public Library, etc.) - free of charge.
  • Other locations in and around Southbury - $2

Payment must be made by punch card, which may be purchased at the Senior Center in the amount of $10 or $20 denominations.

Monday Waterbury, Woodbury, Middlebury (last appointment before 2:00pm)
Tuesday Danbury (last appointment before 1:00pm)
Wednesday Danbury (last appointment before 1:00pm)
Thursday Waterbury, Woodbury, Middlebury (last appointment before 2:00pm)
Friday New Haven and VA Hospital West Haven (last appointment before 1:00pm)

All out of town eye appointments must start by 11:00 AM.

  • Danbury and New Haven and VA Hospital West Haven - $5

Payment must be made by punch card. $15 punch cards are available for purchase at the Senior Center or by mail. If sending in payment, please make check out to Town of Southbury, and mail to: Senior Center at 561 Main Street South, Southbury, CT 06488.
