Child Safety Seat Installation Request

The Southbury Police Department is pleased to provide the community with officers who are certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians. These officers are available to assist both expecting and veteran parents with installation of their car seats. Appointments are needed to have car seats installed and may be scheduled by filling out the form below. We recommend booking your appointment one to two months ahead of your baby's due date, allowing for any potential early arrivals. When you come for your appointment, remember to bring the car seat instructions and your vehicle owner's manual with you.

Requests should be submitted one week before date of the installation and are filled based on availability of department personnel.

What to expect during your appointment:

After being greeted and asked to fill out light paperwork, the technician will inspect your seat while checking to see if it’s expired or recalled. The officer will install your seat making sure to teach and answer questions you may have as they install. The Officer will focus on walking you through the installation, to ensure you know how to install the seat safely on your own.

Keep Your Child Safe:

  • Children under 2 years old or weighing less than 30 lbs. must ride in a rear facing car seat.
  • Children 2 years of age to 5 years of age or weighing less than 40 lbs. must use a child restraint that has a 5-point harness.
  • Children 8 years of age and weighing less than 60 lbs. must use a booster seat or a five point harness.
  • Children older than 8 years of age and weighing 60 lbs. can use a safety belt or a booster seat.
