Southbury Economic Development Commission and Newtown Savings Bank are co-hosting a 3-part lunch ‘n learn series for small business. The book, full of pictures, history, congratulatory letters from the President of the United States, and more, is available while supplies last. All proceeds benefit the Southbury Historical Society. SPOTLIGHT ON NONPROFIT: Whiskers Pet Rescue
Whiskers Pet Rescue is a no-kill cat rescue organization in Southbury. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity committed to helping and caring for cats and kittens who have been abandoned, injured, abused, or neglected. They do not receive any government funding and are funded entirely by donations from their supporters and adoption fees, plus a few grants they apply for. They have approximately 140 volunteers as of 2023 and rescue and adopt out hundreds of cats and kittens each year, placing them in loving forever homes. GRANTS
- The Kitty Fund will award a total of $25,000 to 25 small business owners who identify as mothers in 2024. Eligible businesses must be based in the U.S., have annual revenues under $5M, and employ between 2 to 50 people. While applications don’t open until March 2024, those interested can pre-register today.
- The Papaya Grant offers $10,000 to support the long-term success of a female-owned small business. U.S.-based female entrepreneurs focusing on their entrepreneurial challenges, brand missions, and grant utilization intentions can apply by March 31.
