The majority of older adults hope to age in their homes, but many don’t feel that’s possible, according to AARP data(opens in new tab). So what exactly does it take to age at home? From modifications for safety and accessibility, to help with activities of daily living, this Connecticut Public conversation will explore what goes into “aging in place” – and why people want to grow older in their own communities. Join us November 5 at the Heritage Hotel & Conference Center in Southbury for our latest community conversation about aging and caregiving. We also want to hear from you: What questions or concerns do you have about aging at home? Submit your question when registering, or bring your questions to the live panel! Panel: Jeffrey Stokes: Sociologist and social gerontologist at University of Connecticut, specializing in aging, families and health. Alyssa Norwood: Director of the statewide Connecticut Age Well Collaborative initiative at Connecticut Community Care. Peter Eder: helped found “At Home in Darien” a group that supports aging in place, providing free services to residents 60 years and older. Doors open at 6 p.m. for mingling and light refreshments. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. with a panel and Q&A session moderated by Connecticut Public’s Caregiving and Aging Reporter Michayla Savitt, followed by an opportunity to speak with fellow guests and visit sponsor resource tables.
