11/25/2023 - 350th Historical Photography Exhibit part 2: Growing Southbury until November 29, 2023 The second part of the Historical Photography Exhibit focuses on the 20th century. Southbury was growing and changing. While some of the town’s family farms continue to operate, others were sold and made way for a different kind of growth. The 1900s brought new housing, shopping, and entertainment. Being mindful of our agricultural treasures, some farms have been protected from future development. Most of images are digitized photographs. They come from both public and personal collections, some never before seen by the public. The first offering, “Early Southbury”, ran the month of October and has been very well-received. Guest book comments include: “Great Exhibit. Items I had not seen before in other history books.” “Spectacular pics! And extremely helpful captions.” “Interesting step back in time.” “A trip through the past”. Captions for the photographs are once again provided by John Dwyer, Town historian and co-chair of the 350th Committee, and Melinda Elliott, Southbury Historical Society President and 350th Committee member. Gosia Liedlich, the town’s Digital Communications Specialist and a member of the 350th Anniversary Committee, was the point person for this project, including collecting and assembling the photographs. The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am to 9:00pm, Saturdays 9:30am to 4:00pm and Sundays 12:00pm to 5:00pm. ### Event: 350th Historical Photography Exhibit part 2: Growing Southbury Event Date: 11/2-29/2023 Event Time: During Library Hours Admission Fee: Free Event Organizers/Contact: Southbury Public Library | 203-262-0626 ext. 130 | 350th Anniversary Steering Committee | www.southbury-ct.org/350 Event Location: Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, Southbury, CT 06488 Pumpkin Patch, now Southbury Green Construction of Southbury Town Hall in 1976 The Bazaar at Heritage Village The Town of Southbury is holding events and activities all year long to celebrate 350 years of community, culture and history (1673-2023), aimed at highlighting the past and progress of the one and only Southbury.
