6/6/2018 - June Evening at the Movies at Southbury Library

Evening at the Movies continues this month at the Southbury Public Library. Two Thursdays a month at 6:30pm, the library will screen special evening movies in the Kingsley Room. Similar to the library’s Wednesday movies, these films are open to the public, free to attend, and require no registration.

On Thursday, June 14 at 6:30pm in the Kingsley Room (Rescheduled from May), Margot Robbie appears as Tonya Harding in this 2018 biopic based on events as true as they are unbelievable. This piercing portrayal of Harding’s life in all its triumphs and tribulations chronicles her meteoric rise in figure skating and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. This movie also stars Sebastian Stan and Allison Janney. This film is rated R for pervasive language, violence, and some sexual content/nudity. No one under 17 will be admitted without a parent or guardian.

On Thursday, June 28 at 6:30pm in the Kingsley Room, Natalie Portman stars in this science fiction psychological horror movie based on Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy. Biologist and former solider Lena is shocked when her missing husband comes home near death from a top-secret mission into the Shimmer, a mysterious quarantine zone no one has ever returned from. Now, Lena and her elite team must enter a beautiful, deadly workd of mutated landscapes and creatures to discover how to stop the growing phenomenon that threatens all life on earth. This movie is Rated R for violence, bloody images, language, and some sexuality. No one under 17 will be admitted without a parent or guardian.

Because of licensing and copyright agreements, the library cannot list titles of the films. They are offered free to the public, sponsored by Friends of the Southbury Public Library. They begin at 6:30pm in the Kingsley meeting room surround sound theater, with infrared listening system available and closed captioning.
