12/12/2019 - Sergio Villaschi Exhibit at Southbury Public Library in January 2020

The Gloria Cachion Gallery at the Southbury Public Library will host artist Sergio Villaschi from Friday, January 3, 2020 through Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Sergio Villaschi moved from Rome to Warren, a small town in Connecticut, after an early retirement from an academic life in Surgical Pathology where he could finally develop his interest for photography.

Sergio is a mainly self-taught photographer and while his photos include landscapes and other more conventional subjects, his passion is still life. With every-day objects he creates pleasing compositions and with the use of never exaggerated post-processing techniques he gives them a new life. In his photographs, bottles, flowers or fruit appear immersed in a distinctive atmosphere where light, color, and texture combine to give depth, vibrancy and a particular mood to his creations.

For Sergio the camera is just an instrument to show the reality as he sees it: his goal to create images that may please the eye but also move the soul with that special mood that he is able to create in his photos. He also hopes to help the casual observer to better appreciate the beauty that is in Nature and the simple things that are around us.

Sergio’s photos have been displayed in the Spectrum Gallery in Essex, Connecticut, the Salmagundi Art Club in New York City, The Carriage Barn in New Canaan, the Washington Art Association Gallery in Connecticut, and the Kent Art Association Gallery in Connecticut, among others.

Sergio has won various awards for his work. In particular he received the award of excellence for photography in the 2018 President’s show at the Kent Art Association and the Award of Excellence for photography at the Member II show at the Kent Art Association. He received the SCNY President’s Award for photography at the 40th Annual Open Exhibition at the Salmagundi Art Club.

The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am to 9:00pm, Saturday 9:30 to 4:00pm and Sunday 12:00 to 5:00pm.
