The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is developing plans to upgrade pedestrian accommodations in Bethel, Canton, East Granby, New Hartford, New Milford, Newtown, North Canaan, Oxford, Sherman, Southbury, Waterbury and Watertown. The project involves revising the pedestrian amenities at 24 existing traffic control signals. The work will include pedestals, pedestrian countdown signal heads, accessible pedestrian push buttons, signing and pavement markings, sidewalks and sidewalk ramps.
The project is located at the following intersections in various municipalities in Western Connecticut:
- Route 6 at Old Haleyville Road in Bethel
- Route 44 and 202 at East Hill Road in Canton
- Route 20 at Center Street in East Granby
- Route 202 at Torringford East Street and Harrison Road in New Hartford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at Litchfield Crossing and New Milford Plaza in New Milford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at drives to Home Depot and Carwash in New Milford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at Larson Road in New Milford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at Sunny Valley Road (south junction) and Lore's Plaza driveway in New Milford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at Still River Drive in New Milford
- Route 7/202 (Danbury Road) at Dodd Road in New Milford
- Route 25 at State Road 860 (Mile Hill Road) in Newtown
- Route 25 at Meadow Brook Hill Road & Botsford Hill Road in Newtown
- Route 25 at Button Shop Road and Plaza Driveway in Newtown
- Route 44 at Route 7 and North Elm Street in North Canaan
- Route 67 at Great Hill Road in Oxford
- Route 37 at Holiday Point Road, Jericho Road(s) and Brinsmead ln in Sherman
- State Road 487 at IBM access road in Southbury
- Route 67 at Route 188 (Quaker Farms Road) in Southbury
- State Road 844 (Meriden Road) at Frost Road in Waterbury
- State Road 846 at East Aurora Street and Aurora Street in Waterbury
- I-84 eastbound on-ramp at Reidville Drive and Scott Road in Waterbury
- State Road 844 at Pierpont Road and Tame Buck Road in Waterbury
- Route 262 at State Road 855 and Echo Lake Road No.1 in Watertown
- Route 262 at Park Road in Watertown
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in March 2028, with construction anticipated to start in the fall of 2028, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. This project will be undertaken with 90% federal and 10% state funds.
