5/11/2026 - Construction Advisory-Route 188 over Walnut Brook Bridge Replacement

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is announcing that Replacement of Bridge No. 07153 will be initiated on Route 188 in Southbury. This project is scheduled to start construction activities on Monday May 11, 2026 and estimated to be completed on Monday August 31, 2026. The project 0130-0023, consists of a road closure detour, starting May 11, 2026, during which the following work will be completed: The removal of existing bridge 071531 and surrounding masonry, excavation for new structure and installation of precast 6 ft x 7 ft box culvert and precast wingwalls, channel work which consists of replacement of streambed materials and rip rap. Construction of new roadway with full depth road construction/replacement of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), installation of guide rail, topsoil and plantings.

 CTDOT Project No. 0130-0023 was awarded to Dayton Construction on 08/19/2024 and is scheduled to be completed 8/31/2026. This project is administered by the Bureau of Engineering and Construction, Office of Construction, District IV in Thomaston

Route 188 will be closed starting Monday, May 11, 2026 to Monday, August 31, 2026. Traffic traveling south on Route 188 will be detoured around the project utilizing Interstate 84 west to exit 15 to route 67 south.  Local traffic on Route 188 South will be allowed to access all town roads from Interstate 84 to Walnut Brook Lane. Traffic traveling north on Route 188 will be detoured on state Route 67 North, to Interstate 84 east , exit 16. Traffic control signage patterns and uniformed flaggers will guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this area.
