The Town of Southbury will hold a ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the new sidewalk along Poverty Road connecting Main Street South with the Southbury Public Library.
The project was supported by a $444,946 federal FY2022 Community Project Funding award secured by Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, along with Town funding. It adds a sidewalk on the north side of Poverty Road from Main Street South to the library and improves pedestrian crosswalks at three Main Street South intersections. The improvements address concerns identified in the 2020 Main Street South Pedestrian Safety Study commissioned by the Planning Commission and increases walkability in the center of town.
Congresswoman Hayes and First Selectman Tim O’Neil are scheduled to attend. Light refreshments will follow inside the Southbury Public Library.
