Dear Residents,
Due to COVID-19 cases surging statewide, the State of Connecticut has rolled back to Phase 2.1 per Executive Order No. 9K. For information on Phase 2.1, please visit https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus.
Southbury follows the guidance provided by the CT Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
- Southbury is experiencing a dramatic increase in positive COVID cases.
- For the week ending November 7th, Southbury had 34 confirmed cases of COVID-19, up from 22 cases the week ending October 31st.
- As of November 12th, Southbury had 20.4 cases per 100,000 people.
- Southbury is currently considered a red community due to cases exceeding 15 cases per 100,000.
- We continue to work with the Pomperaug Health District and other Town agencies to monitor the increase and make changes as necessary. Decisions are based on the current COVID conditions and the guidance provided by the above stated agencies.
- Please trust that all decisions are made in an effort to slow and stop the spread.
The Pomperaug Health District is working diligently to conduct contact tracing for every positive case reported to them.
- A close contact is defined as:
- A person within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 48 hour period before illness onset and isolation.
- For asymptomatic cases, the above rule applies for the 48 hours before test specimen collection.

Current guidance from the Governor’s Executive Orders is reviewed daily by the Emergency Management team and Regional partners to make appropriate decisions and notifications.
The current guidance states:
- Any person in a public place in Connecticut, whether indoors or outdoors, who does not maintain a safe social distance of approximately six feet from every other person shall cover their mouth and nose with a mask or cloth face-covering.
