MESSAGE FROM P&R DIRECTOR

Please join me to congratulate the Southbury Parks and Recreation Adult Co-Ed Softball 2021 Champions, The Lawn Doctors. Thank you to all of the players and to their families for their dedication and commitment to the league and to the community. Special thanks to our volunteer league co-commissioners, Tom Marks and John Demeyer.

YOUTH BASKETBALL - RECREATION AND TRAVEL

BASKETBALL RECREATION LEAGUES

Southbury Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Pomperaug Basketball Community is offering recreation basketball focusing on fun, teamwork and the development of basketball skills. Recreation Leagues are divided into the following categories, grades for boys: 3, 4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 and grades for girls: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12.

Evaluations will be held on Saturday, November 6th and Saturday, November 13th at Rochambeau Middle School, times TBD. The league runs from November through March. Practice and Game Schedules will be announced once teams are formed.

BASKETBALL TRAVEL LEAGUES

Southbury Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Pomperaug Basketball Community is offering competitive travel teams which will compete against local area towns (Fairfield County Basketball League). Travel Basketball is offered for girls and boys grades 5-8. The season runs in full gear November through March with tryouts and evaluations commencing in October.

Tryouts will be held on various dates, please view RecDesk for dates and times. All players are required to attend ALL tryout sessions. Participants who do not make the travel team will be automatically enrolled into our recreation league. The cost difference will be refunded.

LITTLE SWISHERS BASKETBALL: Coming Soon!

An instructional program for girls and boys in grades 1&2. Registrations will be opening soon. Program dates are January 8, 2022 - February 12, 2022. Two sessions will be offered.


SCARECROW CONTEST

When the leaves start to fall, be creative and make your scarecrow! Take a picture of your scarecrow and email to parkrec3@southbury-ct.gov or drop it off at our office on or before October 29, 2021. When submitting your scarecrow photo, in order to qualify, please include your full name (first and last), address and phone number. Winners will be announced at the end of November. 


PUMPKIN CONTEST

Have some fun and paint or carve your funniest, scariest or most creative pumpkin. Take a picture of your pumpkin and email to parkrec5@southbury-ct.gov or drop it off at our office on or before November 5, 2021. When submitting your pumpkin photo, in order to qualify, please include your full name (first and last), address and phone number. Winners will be announced at the end of November. 


11th ANNUAL HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR - October 23, 2021

Calling all Ghosts and Ghouls! The Ladies Auxiliary of the Southbury Volunteer Firemen’s Association (SVFALA) is hosting the 11th Annual Halloween Spooktacular. This year’s event will take place OUTDOORS between Pomperaug Elementary School and the Firehouse on Main Street South. Children and families are invited to dress up in their favorite costumes and collect candy from decorated booths along the walking path. This year’s participants include Southbury’s Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Parks & Rec, Police Department, Ambulance Association, and several other organizations and businesses. The event is free to attend, but non-perishable items and canned goods for the Southbury Food Bank are appreciated.

The Halloween Spooktacular will be held on Saturday October 23rd from 2:30 to 5:00 pm. (Rain date: Sunday October 24th.)

Parking will be available in the lots at Pomperaug Elementary and Rochambeau Schools.

There are limited spaces available for participants to decorate a booth and pass out candy. If interested, please contact the event organizer at svfaladies@gmail.com.

PAVILION RENTAL 2022

Pavilion Rentals will begin on January 10, 2022 for Residents and February 14, 2022 for Non-Residents. If you are interested in renting the Ballantine Pavilion, please visit www.southbury-ct.org/pavilion for all the details.


INSTRUCTORS NEEDED!

Southbury Parks and Recreation is currently seeking instructors for the following programs:

  • Toddler and Preschool aged children for a Creative Play Class
  • Volleyball coaches for Volleyball Clinics
  • Tennis Instructors for all ages
  • Painting for all ages
