ARPA TASK FORCE
Last Wednesday the ARPA Task Force had a productive meeting discussing with stakeholders ideas for use of the funding. We met with members of Pierce Hollow Village about funding for elderly affordable housing at the Southbury Training School. Our Social Services Director discussed the need for funding for nonprofits in Town, and our Economic Development Director spoke with us about developing property to make it more attractive to businesses. The Task Force will be reviewing these proposals and is looking forward to the next meeting on October 27th at 6:00pm. I invite all residents to attend and speak to us about their ideas for the best use of the funds.
HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Southbury Volunteer Firemen’s Association will be holding the 11th Annual Southbury Halloween Spooktacular this Saturday, October 23rd from 2:30pm-5:00pm. The event will be held outdoors between Pomperaug Elementary School and the Firehouse. There will be many fun booths for children to visit and collect candy. I will have a booth set up with my family and am looking forward to participating in the event. More information can be found here.
SOUTHBURY TURKEY TROT
Registration for the 11th Annual Southbury Turkey Trot 5k is now open. The Thanksgiving morning event has been a tradition in Town that helps the Southbury Food Bank, Southbury Fuel Bank and Southbury Needy Fund. These organizations are in need of financial support now more than ever, so I hope the community will participate in this longstanding event that is back in-person this year. The Southbury Women’s Club works very hard to organize the Turkey Trot, and I appreciate all their efforts. Click here for event and registration information.
POCD SURVEY DEADLINE EXTENDED
The community survey submission deadline for the Plan of Conservation and Development has been extended until October 27th. We are hoping to receive more responses to help inform the POCD update process. The survey can be found here or picked up at Town buildings and the Heritage Village Activities Building.
SOUTHBURY JOB PORTAL
The launch of the new job portal on the Town website has been a success so far. We have over 30 postings for local jobs submitted by businesses. The portal is a great resource to find employment in Southbury. To submit a job or view openings, click here.
