TOWN BUDGET
After weeks of workshops and discussion, the Board of Selectmen voted to approve their Annual Town Budget for fiscal year 2023. This vote reflected minor changes to the budget I put forward on February 15th. Given the current inflationary pressures and the ongoing pandemic, this budget maintains fiscal stability for the Town. The Board of Selectmen agree that this budget is responsive to the needs of residents and businesses and responsible to taxpayers. The FY23 budget:
- Invests in public safety
- Invests in technology to increase government modernization
- Maintains tax relief for seniors and disabled residents
- Invests in infrastructure to maintain roads and bridges
- Preserves long-term fiscal health of the Town
The Board of Finance will vote to approve the final budget on April 11th at 7:00pm and has the authority to make changes with a majority vote. The Budget Referendum for the Town of Southbury’s Municipal Budget and Pomperaug Regional School District #15 Budget will be held on May 4, 2022.
COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE FOR POCD
The update of Southbury’s Plan of Conservation and Development has been moving along successfully with the help of the Planning Commission and Land Use Department staff. The Community Open House that had been postponed due to COVID-19 concerns will be held on March 24th from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Town Hall, room 205. There will be opportunity for input with a series of interactive exercises and room to ask questions and get more information about the update process.
