7/7/2022 - ROAD ALERT: Detention Basin Work on July 11-22, 2022

Beginning Monday, July 11 and continuing for two weeks, the Department of Public Works and Distinctive Tree Care will be carrying out tree and brush removal at detention basins throughout the town.

Detention basins are an integral part of the storm water management system in Southbury. During storms, water flows into detention basins at a high flow rate and is gradually released at a low flow rate. This minimizes the risk of flooding and keeps pipes freer of debris. Without detention basins, high flow rates in storms can overwhelm pipes. Trees and brush growing in detention basins reduce their storm water capacity and impede regular maintenance, which increases the risk of flooding. This tree and brush work will help reduce the risk of future flooding by ensuring the integrity of the detention basins.

Roads which may be affected by this work include:

  • Coachman’s Drive
  • Country Woods Lane
  • Eagle View Road
  • Harvest Lane
  • Hillcrest Drive
  • Holly Hill Lane
  • Patriot Road
  • Royal Coach Lane
  • Saddle Ridge Lane
  • Sterling Ridge
  • Vista View Drive
  • Westenhook Terrace

Please be mindful of work crews when traveling the roads listed above. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of the town’s efforts to improve its storm water management system.
