The Town of Southbury is hiring a part-time Aquatics Head Coach in the Parks and Recreation Department. Salary is $20.25/hour averaging 15-25 hours/week. The Head Coach guides and grows a successful aquatics program while exemplifying positive enthusiasm for and around the sport of swimming for all levels of development. The Head Coach fosters positive relationships and communicates well with their coaching staff, swim team members and parents.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates all new swimmers interested in joining the program to determine if they have the basic swim skills for their safety and success
- Creates practice groups for member swimmers ages 6 to 18
- Plans the team practice schedule, coaching schedule and meet schedule
- Recruits, supervises and mentors an effective coaching staff
- Coaches all age group/practice groups throughout the season and/or observes practices
- Provides feedback on coaching skills to staff
- Provides instructional feedback to all swimmers
- Prepares all swim meet entries and attends all scheduled meets in some capacity
- Maintains a healthy professional relationship with SPR and the team Parents Association, working collaboratively to plan and execute any fundraising endeavors, special events, or other key activities
- Attends bi-annual CT Swimming Delegates Meeting
- Promotes the sport and the team and engages with current and prospective families
- Pursues training, and maintains all required certifications
- Provides periodic support of the Parks and Recreation department outside of aquatics
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organizational, leadership, and management skills
- A passion for the sport and ability to work with swimmers with varying ability/commitment levels
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and act as a mentor to swimmers and coaches
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school with a diploma or GED
- Minimum of three years swim coaching experience
- Current ARC Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certification
- USA Swimming Coach Certification and Safety Training for Swim Coaches
- Working knowledge of Team Unify, Hy-Tek Team Manager and Meet Manager
- Four-year college degree preferred
