SOUTHBURY POLICE DEPARTMENT EARN TIER 1 ACCREDITATION

I am happy to report that the Town of Southbury Police Department is the first Resident Trooper town in the State of Connecticut to achieve Tier 1 Accreditation from the State of Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council (POSTC). The accreditation is a rigorous process through which law enforcement agencies demonstrate excellence in management and service delivery by complying with state accreditation standards. I am very proud of the Southbury Police Department, not only for achieving this prestigious designation, but also for the outstanding work they do every day protecting our citizens, preventing crime, and providing a safe community for all our citizens to enjoy. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

SENIOR CENTER - COFFEE WITH THE FIRST SELECTMAN

On April 18th, I had the pleasure of having coffee and conversation with members of our Senior Center. I enjoyed connecting with them, listening to what’s on their mind, and hearing what’s going on in their lives. To those who attended, thank you for sharing your time with me.

Seventeen members of our Land Use staff, and Planning and Zoning Commissions attended the Connecticut Federation of Planning and Zoning Agencies 75th annual conference where they received education and opportunities to network with their peers. Thank you to the dedicated employees and town volunteers who attended. Congratulations to Richard Teardo, Planning Commission Chairman, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 20+ years of dedicated volunteer service to the Planning Commission.

TOWN APPRECIATION LUNCHEON BENEFITS MAKE-A-WISH

On March 28th, the Town recognized our employees with an Employee Appreciation Luncheon. In addition to thanking our staff, we were able to support Make-A-Wish on their Annual Day of Giving where 100% of Jersey Mike’s sales are donated to Make-A-Wish. A sizable donation was made to Make-A-Wish on behalf of the Town of Southbury and our staff. Not only are our employees dedicated and hardworking, they are also very generous.

PUBLIC SAFETY DAY

On Sunday, April 23rd, the Town of Southbury and its residents celebrated Public Safety Day at the Center Firehouse. This indoor/outdoor event featured the rare opportunity to meet and interact with Southbury First Responders and participate in educational events and unique demonstrations. I think the kids’ favorite activity was spraying the fire hose. What kid wouldn’t want to do that? Thanks to all our First Responders who volunteered their time to teach our residents more about public safety in such a fun way.

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION

This year's Arbor Day is Friday, April 28th. A ceremony will be held at Settlers Park at 10:00 a.m. to dedicate the planting of a new White Oak Tree and repositioning of the historical marker that designates the site where the first settlers camped in 1673, in what was to become Southbury.

EVENTS

Our Town event calendar is filling up with various new spring activities. Our Parks & Recreation and Public Works Departments have been working hard to prepare our town parks for the Spring. New businesses are continuing to open up and many organizations are hosting their own events. To find out what’s happening in Southbury, please visit our website at www.southbury-ct.org/events.

I hope you are able to get out and enjoy some of the upcoming events in Town and spend some time in the beautiful parks we are so fortunate to have here.

Best Regards,
