9/20/2023 - Town of Southbury Announces Volunteer Appreciation Event

The Town of Southbury is excited to announce that after an almost 4-year hiatus the Volunteer Appreciation Event will be returning. This year’s honorees are ALL of our wonderful townspeople within our community. The Volunteer Appreciation Committee recognizes that many of our Southburians have gone above and beyond assisting their neighbors, religious organizations and friends through tough times and throughout the Covid pandemic. We feel that we would be remiss not to say ‘Thank You’ to each and every one of our community members for the effort and kindness displayed during such an unprecedented time.

Please join us to honor the kindness that Southbury residents have shown to each other during Southbury’s Volunteer Appreciation BBQ and Get-Together. This event is open to everyone who has given their time to help others no matter how great or how small. We truly are “A Town That Runs on Volunteers”.

During this event, community members will have a chance to say ‘hello’ and network with other community members. We anticipate that there will be opportunities to chat and ‘schmooze’ with many members of the Towns boards and commissions as well.

This year’s themes are ‘COMMUNITY’ and ‘GRATITUDE’. With this in mind we are requesting that attendees help support those less fortunate than ourselves by bringing to the event a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Southbury Food Bank and will be distributed by them. A Southbury Food Bank volunteer will be present to discuss the food bank with anyone who might have questions as well as to bring the collection to the bank following the event.

As has become a tradition at this event, The Knight of Columbus will be serving the town and barbequing for us.

The Middlebury and Southbury Equity & Inclusion Council will have representatives present and will have a table which will explain its mission within the community and share important resources for our Southbury families.

The free event is scheduled for October 1, 2023, 12:45 PM at the Pavilion at Ballantine Park, Old Field Road. Advance registration is required. Please register via the Town’s Website This event is truly a town-wide event, therefore all Southburians are cordially invited to attend. Please RSVP by September 26, 2023.
