The Town of Southbury is hiring a Reference Librarian Substitute. This position will work in the Reference Department as needed to cover for vacations and absences. Salary range is $19.00-$21.00/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Assists patrons with electronic resources including instruction on various electronic devices and computer software.
- Provides professional reference services for patrons including research assistance through online searches and print resources.
- Performs collection development services for adult, reference, fiction and non-fiction.
- Performs circulation duties at reference desk as necessary.
Orders, processes and returns interlibrary loan items from libraries in the region, consortium and State system.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of practices of library services provided in a public library setting and strong knowledge of library principles and practices, particularly classification and cataloguing systems.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
- Knowledge of reference services and a strong knowledge of community reading interests, books and authors and other general literature and reference materials.
- Ability to utilize computer applications as they apply to library functions.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited university plus two years of related experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
