The Town of Southbury is announcing that construction on Purchase Brook Road Bridge over Purchase Brook will begin on Monday, July 15, 2024. The bridge is located at #812 Purchase Brook Road, and is currently reduced to an alternating one-way traffic pattern. The project consists of the full replacement of the bridge.
The bridge will be fully closed to all traffic, including vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians, for 24 hours per day. The duration of the project is approximately 2.5 months, with the bridge currently scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 30, 2024. Inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances have the potential to impact the reopening date. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated in a timely manner.
River Road will be opened beginning Monday, July 15, 2024 to allow access to the Purchase area during the closure of Purchase Brook Road Bridge.
A detour will be implemented during the bridge replacement and will consist of Purchase Brook Road, Stillson Road, Spruce Brook Road, South Britain Road, Main Street South, Ichabod Road, Fish Rock Road, and River Road. Motorists should follow the posted signs for the detour route.
