The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Facilities Foreman in the Public Works Department. The position is represented by the Teamsters Local 443 Collective Bargaining Unit. Required hours are 40/week with the potential for overtime. Provides excellent medical benefits through the Teamsters Union at no cost to the employee. Eligible to participate in the defined contribution retirement plan with Town match and receives life and disability insurance and generous sick, vacation and personal leave. Salary is $31.03/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Monitors and performs routine building maintenance and repairs including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting and general repairs.
- Ensures safe and efficient operations of town buildings and facilities through proper custodial and building maintenance services such as elevator inspection, boiler inspection, fire extinguisher inspections, monitoring utility and fuel consumption, sprinkler inspection, etc.
- Maintains records of inspections and all other preventative building maintenance functions and assigns as needed
- Supports the Facilities Manager in budgeting for facility maintenance, capital and infrastructure accounts.
- Monitors underground fuel tanks in accordance with state and federal regulations (DEEP/EPA) and schedules repairs or replacements.
- Responsible for operating the town pool infrastructure including maintaining water chemistry, facility MEP and seasonal tasks.
- Assists with preparation of bids or obtains quotes for building trade contractors for various services to repair and maintain building systems. Monitors and oversees building trade contractors.
- Ensures compliance and quality control of all building cleaning and maintenance services by monitoring, scheduling and supervising custodial staff, custodial contractors and building maintenance contractors.
- Is on call to respond to emergencies after normal working hours for security alerts and emergency maintenance issues.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or Advanced Technical Certification in the trades with over 5 years HVAC, plumbing, or electrical work experience including some supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Ability to obtain and maintain UST (Underground Storage Tank) Operator Class-B certification, CPO (Certified Pool and Spa Operator) certification, and OSHA-30.
- Must possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle License.
