The Town of Southbury is hiring a part-time Finance & Human Resources Assistant. The position is 29 hours/week and offers vacation, sick and holiday pay. Salary range is $23.00-$25.00/hour. The position provides administrative support to the Finance, Human Resources, Tax and Assessor’s Offices.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Performs accounts payable duties ensuring timely entry and payment of invoices
- Assists Human Resources during the hiring and onboarding process
- Prepares for and assists with internal and external audits
- Ensures timely responses to questions from applicants and new hires
- Schedules and participates in interviews for open positions
- Ensures receipt and review of all job applications
- Maintains office files including personnel and accounts payable files
- Updates payroll system with changes to employee information and assists employees with login issues.
- Collects and processes real estate, personal property and motor vehicle tax payments
- Assists Assessor’s Office with property valuations for the annual grand list
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of general accounting and bookkeeping principles
- Computer technology skills and knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to develop effective relationships with staff, supervisors and the public and possess well-developed interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task, work independently and maintain confidentiality
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in finance, accounting, human resources or related field and at least one year of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
