8/19/2024 - Flooding Update - August 19, 2024

From the Office of the First Selectman:

In coordination with Emergency Management and Public Safety officials we have begun a damage assessment of the flooding event that severely impacted the Town of Southbury. The Town is currently experiencing multiple power outages and infrastructure damage to our roadways. We have approximately 60 roadways affected with at least 12 complete closures. Our public works team is assessing these areas to determine the most effective way to repair and reopen these roadways. Due to the extensive damage this process will take some time to complete.

The Southbury Public Library will be closed for the foreseeable future due to flooding and damage.

Parks and Recreation programming is canceled until further notice. All parks in town, athletic fields and town pool are currently closed.

We are aware that residents have had damage to their homes and property. The link below has been created for residents to self-report damage to their property. By submitting this form, officials will be able to utilize this information to develop an accurate damage assessment to measure how this flooding event impacted the town. This assessment will allow the local, State, and Federal officials to evaluate potential funding opportunities.

Town officials have been and will continue to be in contact with our public utilities to get services restored in a safe and timely manner.

Please stay home and off of the roadways so that the crews can safely address the damage.
