The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Facilities Technician in the Public Works Department. The position is represented by the Teamsters Local 443 Collective Bargaining Unit. Required hours are 40/week with the potential for overtime. Provides excellent medical benefits through the Teamsters Union at no cost to the employee. Eligible to participate in the defined contribution retirement plan with Town match and receives life and disability insurance and generous sick, vacation and personal leave. Salary is $24.01/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Performs specialized and minor interior building maintenance tasks including carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
- Performs building exterior maintenance tasks on siding, roofing, windows, doors, gutters, masonry, etc.
- Performs system upgrades including electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.
- Implements the preventative maintenance program by identifying maintenance needs and writes up work orders for areas requiring repairs.
- Performs custodial duties as needed, including moving office equipment and furniture and equipment.
- Performs minor repairs to building equipment such as pumps, plumbing, heating, and cooling systems.
- Performs routine maintenance work and emergency repairs on boilers, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural and other components in Town buildings.
- Responds to emergency conditions in buildings, including night and weekend emergencies.
- Supports the Facilities Foreman on operation and seasonal maintenance of the Town pool.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, masonry, mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs.
- Ability to work independently and deal with the public, town officials and associates in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools in a safe manner.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule of hours when required which may include mandatory overtime for emergencies or project completion.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with 5 years of facility maintenance, trades, or similar experience. Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Must possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle License.
