Due to anticipated rain on Saturday, the 2024 Southbury Celebration has been moved to the rain date of Sunday, September 8.
Southbury Celebration 2024, an annual Food, Music, and Fireworks community event will be on Saturday September 7th from 4:30 – 9pm at Lake Stibbs on Route 172 at the Southbury Training School. The family-oriented evening is free and open to the entire community. The rain date is Sunday, September 8nd.
Southbury Celebration is co-sponsored by the Town of Southbury and the Southbury Training School. The fireworks will be launched at approximately 8:15 p.m.
“We have a great line-up of local entertainment, something for all ages. The roster includes crowd-favorite Ethan Fiske and The Big Love Band; singer / troubadour, Michael Carrington; Americana songs by Sherry Zigmunds, and the DJ jams of PowerStation”, explained Committee member Kevin Bielmeier. Music and entertainment will start at 4:30 pm and will continue up until the National Anthem performance at around 8:15 pm immediately before the fireworks.
The Food Court will open at 4:30 pm and will serve until 8:30 pm. This year Southbury Celebration has 18 food vendors including 11 commercial food trucks plus 7 community groups with a large variety of anticipated food options including: all beef hot dogs, pulled pork, smoked BBQ brisket, pulled chicken, red hots, chili dogs, sweet potato fries, onion rings, curly fries, slushies, dumplings, fried rice, steak teriyaki grinder, portobello mushroom grinder, hot lobster rolls, fried scallop rolls, fried shrimp, New England clam chowder, fish & chips, chicken tenders, fried dough, baked goods, 10-12 kinds of cannoli’s, popcorn, cotton candy, donuts, ice cream, soda, water, coffee and beverages.
“People are encouraged to arrive early to hear the music, visit with friends, enjoy the food selections / food trucks, or enjoy their own picnic dinner and ultimately watch a spectacular firework show,” proclaimed chairperson Brian M. Jones.
Attendees have the option to watch the fireworks from their car on the Great Lawn or can bring their own lawn chairs and blankets for view from the Lake Stibbs field. Southbury Celebration draws over 4 - 5,000 people annually.

Pyrotecnico will launch fireworks over beautiful Lake Stibbs with many new and unique firework effects. Pyrotecnico founded in 1889 is a fifth-generation fireworks display company providing fireworks displays throughout the USA. Sound, stage, lighting, and DJ expertise are expertly provided by PowerStation Events (www.powerstationevents.com) based in Cheshire, CT.
No alcohol and no pets are permitted at the event. Caution should be exercised with service animals due to audience and fireworks noises. Extensive free parking is on the STS Great Front Lawn along with Handicapped parking provided closer to the event field. Due to congested event traffic and safety concerns, there will be no pedestrian walking and no vehicle parking along Route 172.
