9/11/2024 - Governor Ned Lamont Requests President Biden to Institute a Major Disaster Declaration for Three Connecticut Counties

From the Office of First Selectman Jeff Manville

On Monday, Governor Ned Lamont submitted a formal request to President Joe Biden seeking a major disaster declaration due to the historic rainfall and extreme flooding that occurred on August 18-19, 2024, and impacted New Haven, Litchfield, and Fairfield Counties.

Governor Lamont’s request provides important statistical information regarding the flooding event and data collected from the Individual Assessments. I urge everyone, especially those seeking financial relief from their flood damage, to read the information on the two links provided below.

Now, President Biden must make the decision whether he will institute a Major Disaster Declaration for Connecticut which, if instituted, will allow residents, businesses, and municipalities to apply for public assistance. We will provide additional information as it is received.

FEMA teams concluded their assessments of Southbury’s residential and commercial damage last week, and of Southbury town-owned property yesterday. Again, if you have not reported or have information to add to your damages, please go to the Southbury Emergency Center webpage and click on “Report Flood Damage”.
