The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Inland Wetlands & ZBA Coordinator at 35 hours/week with a salary range of $47,000-$50,000 per year. This position provides administrative and technical assistance to the Land Use Department, Inland Wetland Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).
Responsibilities:
- Prepares and posts legal notices about Inland Wetlands Commission and ZBA meetings; prepares agendas and packets for meetings, attends meetings, takes notes and prepares minutes.
- Maintains the Inland Wetlands Commission and ZBA calendars, checks GIS software for correct wetlands setbacks and addresses, completes appropriate applications, collects appropriate fees and maintains a spreadsheet of applications, permits and timelines.
- Prepares correspondence as directed relating to application approvals or status. Prepares specific correspondence about wetlands violations and issues letters to abutters related to ZBA variances.
- Cooperates interdepartmentally in assisting with the assigned workflow of the online permitting software. Provides technical support to customers applying for permits online.
- Assists the Land Use Administrator with implementation of the Farmer’s Market including preparation of letters to vendors and issuance of vendor permits.
- Orders, purchases and maintains office supplies, processes mail and handles filing for office.
- Assists applicants with land use questions, and if unable to answer, determines who can assist with problem solving to promote a team effort and assist applicants with their projects within the regulations.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of and ability to read and understand general municipal land use procedures and policies and Zoning and Inland Wetlands statutes and regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees and the general public.
- Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Excel and Word and ability to learn and utilize the Town online permitting software.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and compose routine letters and memoranda.
- Ability to be comfortable with a large volume of applications and customers and ability to multi-task.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school plus an associate’s degree and at least two years of administrative and land use experience. Specialized courses relating to land use, planning, wetlands, zoning and GIS experience preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Must complete CAZEO course within two years of hire.
