4/1/2025 - Employment Opportunity: Facilities Technician

The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Facilities Technician in the Public Works Department. The position is represented by the Teamsters Local 443 Collective Bargaining Unit. Required hours are 40/week with the potential for overtime. Provides excellent medical benefits through the Teamsters Union at no cost to the employee. Eligible to participate in the defined contribution retirement plan with Town match and receives life and disability insurance and generous sick, vacation and personal leave. Salary is $24.01/hour and the work schedule is Tuesday – Saturday 8:00am-4:30pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs specialized and minor interior building maintenance tasks including carpentry, drywall, painting, electrical, mechanical and plumbing.
  • Completes building exterior maintenance tasks on siding, roofing, windows, doors, gutters, masonry, etc.
  • Responds to emergency conditions in buildings, including night and weekend emergencies.
  • Performs minor repairs to building equipment such as pumps, plumbing, heating, and cooling systems.
  • Performs routine maintenance work on boilers, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural and other components in Town buildings.
  • Performs custodial duties including vacuuming, mopping, cleaning and stocking restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, dusting and general cleaning.
  • Completes system upgrades including electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic maintenance equipment, procedures, supplies, and materials. Basic knowledge of carpentry, masonry, mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and deal with the public, town officials and associates in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures, tools and materials used in a specific building trade or trades.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools in a safe manner.
  • Willingness to attend courses, seminars, and trainings to maintain and update skills as requested.
  • Knowledge of custodial equipment, procedures, supplies and materials.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule of hours when required which may include mandatory overtime for emergencies or project completion.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED with 2 years of related experience. Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle License.
