SOUTHBURY IS HONORING ITS SERVICE MEMBERS

The Hometown Heroes Banner Program joins the American flags along the town’s award-winning streetscape, in time for this Monday’s Memorial Day Parade. This program is a living tribute for our community to honor past and present members of the Armed Forces and their family members. NEWTOWN SAVINGS BANK CELEBRATES 55 YEARS IN SOUTHBURY

Bank employees, town officials and other organizational leaders came out to help the bank celebrate this milestone at 685 Main Street South in Southbury. Giving back to the community is a pillar of the bank’s mission, so NSB made a $1,000 donation to the Tribury Rotary Club.

RIBBON CUTTING: Whiskers Too Celebrates Their Grand Opening

Whiskers Pet Rescue, in Bennett Square, 134 Main St South, held a grand opening of their new additional building in the plaza, "Whiskers Too" this month. Whiskers Too is a cage-free space for stressed cats to recoup and become more socialized, where volunteers can spend extra time with them. Whiskers Pet Rescue is a no-kill cat rescue organization in Southbury, Connecticut. They are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity committed to helping and caring for cats and kittens that have been abandoned, injured, abused, or neglected. They rescue from many local communities in our area. They rescue, vet and adopt out hundreds of cats and kittens each year, placing them in loving forever homes. In 2023, they adopted out 720 cats and kittens. They rely entirely on grants, adoption fees, fundraisers, and supporters' donations to continue their mission. NEXT MONTH’S RIBBON CUTTING: Jack Zazzaro, D.M.D. Celebrates 20 Years in Southbury on June 14, 2024

The Southbury Chamber and the SEDC will celebrate Dr. Jack Zazzaro, D.M.D. to mark the 20th anniversary of his dental practice in Southbury at 316 Main Street South with a ribbon cutting.

SOUTHBURY CHAMBER PASSES 100 MEMBERS

Less two years after its formation, the Southbury Chamber has surpassed the 100 member threshold—marking a significant milestone in its growth and development, the organization has announced.

In addition to serving the local business community as a resource and advocate, the Chamber has organized several signature events, including the Festival of Wreaths and the Member Celebration and Awards Dinner, which honored two local businesses and community members. The Chamber also hosts a monthly networking series called Wake Up Your Business on the third Friday of every month from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Calvary Southbury, giving area business professionals and opportunity to network, get business leads, and learn from others in the community. The next one in Southbury will be held on Friday, June 21. Registration is free HERE.

MEET THE COMMISSIONER

Earlier in May, Southbury Economic Development Director (and 1st VP of CEDAS) Kevin Bielmeier had the opportunity to interview Connecticut’s new Commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), Dan O’Keefe, before a state-wide audience of economic development professionals and local municipal officials. Giving Joy grants, ranging from $250 to $500, are available to businesses in any sector and can be used to start or expand businesses, nonprofits, non-governmental organizations, or community projects that focus on benefiting women, girls, and families.
