Safe Exchange Zone
A “Safe Exchange Zone” has been created in the parking lot of the Southbury Police Department in July 2019. It was a project of Grace Steenburgh, senior at Pomperaug High School and Girl Scout Ambassador of Troop 64325 for her Girl Scout Gold Award.
The “Safe Exchange Zone” enables residents to conduct their exchanges from internet transactions (Facebook tag sales, Craigslist, etc.) in the safe environment of our Police Station. It also provides a safe area for children to be transferred between divorced parents or guardians for visitation, making it more comfortable for everyone to meet.
It is not the intent of the Southbury Police Department to provide police personnel to witness any transaction/exchanges in person, but the video surveillance and proximity to police personnel is meant to increase the public’s peace of mind when engaging in such transactions/exchanges.
