Sunday, June 21, 2026 from 2-3:30pm in the Kingsley Room, join us for a lecture about the route General Rochambeau came through Southbury.
What roads did the French Army take to get through Southbury during the Revolutionary War? It’s a question frequently asked by local residents. It’s a question not easily answered though. Only by a systematic analysis of period journals, maps, surveys, correspondence, and a dive into the local land records can one come up with a satisfactory answer.
And was Rochambeau the only commander who led troops over our streets?
Join us to find out if the French Expeditionary Force passed through your neighborhood. Also learn about the other Revolutionary celebrities who rode through our town.
John Dwyer and his family came to Southbury in 1984 to move into his wife's, Lynn, ancestral home. Their children were the 8th generation descendants to live there. The proximity to this heritage spurred an interest in antiquities into a study of local history. He serves on the Southbury America's 250th Commission.
Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
