Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 7-8:30pm in the Kingsley Room, join us for a lecture about cryptids in Connecticut.
Join author Patrick Scalisi and artist Valerie Ruby-Omen for a talk about their book, Connecticut Cryptids: A Field Guide to the Weird & Wonderful Creatures of the Nutmeg State. Pat and Val did extensive research on creature folklore from throughout the state. They'll explain the concepts of "cryptozoology" and "cryptids," followed by a live storytelling session on the chapter specific to Southbury (yes, there are cryptids lurking in the communities around Southbury!). There will also be time for questions and a chance to purchase signed books and prints from the creators.
Patrick Scalisi is a writer, editor, journalist, and communications professional from Naugatuck. In addition to his fiction work, Pat is also an award-winning journalist with a particular interest in pop culture and storytelling.
Valerie Ruby-Omen is a Naugatuck-based freelance illustrator. Connecticut Cryptids is her second published work, preceded by the children's book Tennille and the Tale of Princess Penelope.
Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. Registration is required. This program is sponsored by the Charles H. and Ella Emery Rutledge Fund. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
