Between now and June 1st, artists 18 years and older are invited to explore the extensive art instructional DVD collection of the Southbury Public Library, select a video and create their own artwork inspired by the instructor for inclusion in an art show during the month of June 2018 at the Gloria Cashion Gallery. The show is open to artists in Southbury and neighboring towns. There is no cost to participate.
The library collection contains 160 art videos with demonstrations by nationally known artists in plein air landscape, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor, graphite, and oils of many different subjects available for check out. The checkout period for instructional videos is two weeks - plenty of time to watch and get creative.
On Friday, June 1st from 10-12pm and Saturday, June 2nd from 10-11am, artists may bring one or two completed framed paintings or drawings to the library. Artwork must be created as a result of viewing a Southbury Public Library art video within the last two years. For each piece, the submitting artist will need to specify which video inspired the resulting artwork (The artwork need not be an exact copy of the instructor’s demonstration). Artwork must be “family friendly” and the Southbury Library Art Committee reserves the right to decline any artwork that does not meet these guidelines.
