8/27/2020 - Youth Services Department Reopens for Limited Services, Hours, and Capacity

The Southbury Public Library is reopening the Youth Services Department on the second floor for limited hours, services, and capacity. The Children’s and Teen areas are now open Monday – Friday from 9:30 am – 4:30 pm. The Adult Department and first floor circulation desk will continue their existing hours of 9:30 am – 4:30 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 9:30 am – 6:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In order to maintain social distancing, the library is currently limiting patron capacity in the building to 35 people at a time.

For everyone’s safety and protection, all patrons two and older must wear a mask completely covering the mouth and nose at all times. Those without masks can be provided with one. All patrons must maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet at all times. Whenever possible, patrons are asked to limit their visits to one person per family/household at a time. If this is not possible, those entering the library with younger children must stay together at all times. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

The first and second floor indoor book returns are currently closed. Patrons are asked to please return all materials to the outside book return. Upon return, all materials will be quarantined for 72 hours; no fines will be charged during quarantine periods. Children’s and Teen materials may be placed on hold for convenient pick up at the first floor circulation desk online or by calling 203-262-0626 ext. 3. During the second floor’s open hours, patrons may browse the Children’s and Teens shelves for items. Please plan ahead for short visits no longer than 30 minutes; lingering is not encouraged. Patrons who do not feel comfortable entering the building at this time are invited to please call the Reference Desk at 203-262-0626 x 130 to arrange for an alternative pickup service.

Two Youth Services computers are available for children and adults accompanied by children only; all adults unaccompanied by children must use the computers in the Adult Department. Computer use is limited to one 30 minute session per person per day. Due to sanitary conditions, the following items are currently unavailable: Kindles, toys, puzzles, games, and crayons. Likewise, upstairs study tables are not available until further notice.
