2/10/2021 - Children’s and Teen Programs for March 2021

The Southbury Public Library Youth Services department is pleased to announce programming for March 2021 for children and teens. Children’s Programs:

First Chapter Friday – Friday, March 5, 12, 19 & 26 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for a new program as we explore some of our favorite chapter books each Friday afternoon. Recommended for grades 1-5. No registration required.

Open House Take & Make Saturday Craft – Saturday, March 6, 13, 20 & 27
Stop by the Youth Services department every Saturday to take home a thematic craft. Available while supplies last.

Drop-In Storytime - Monday, March 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Ann for stories and songs every Monday. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Nutmeg & Nosh – Tuesday, March 2, 9 & 16 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather as we explore the Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees while enjoying a thematic snack based on each title. Recommended for grades 4-6. No registration required.

Storytime with Katie – Wednesday, March 3, 10, 24 & 31 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Katie for stories and songs geared towards toddlers and older. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Food Explorers: Pretzel Bites – Thursday, March 11 at 5:00 pm on Zoom
Join Miss Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers and learn how to make Pretzel Bites. Ages 7 & up and families. Registration is required.

STEAMonday: St. Patrick’s Day Science – Monday, March 15 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for an afternoon of science fun. This month we’re celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with shamrock and rainbow crystals. Recommended for ages 7 & up. No registration required.

Our Favorite Books – Tuesday, March 23 & 30 at 12:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for a read aloud of some of our favorite stories each Tuesday afternoon. All ages. No registration required.

Fluffy Wooden Alpaca Craft – Thursday, March 25 at 4:30 pm on Zoom
Join Miss Katie for alpaca themed stories and craft. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

Teen Programs:

Online Math and Science Homework Help – Thursday, March 4 & 18 (separate sessions), 5-6pm on Zoom
Do you have a question about your science or math homework, or do you need some help understanding a concept from one of your STEM classes? Come to Online Math and Science Homework Help on Zoom! Triloshan is a senior at Pomperaug High School who has been tutoring in math and science since middle school and currently tutors at Kumon. He has experience in many AP math and science classes, and enjoys tutoring at all levels of STEM topics. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Food Explorers: Creamy Gnocchi Soup – Wednesday, March 24, 5-6pm on Zoom
Join Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers to make Creamy Gnocchi Soup! We'll be making Sweet Potato Gnocchi from scratch and cooking them in a delicious creamy vegetable soup. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Teen DIY To Go: Felt Totoro Keychains – Starting Monday, March 15 while supplies last.
Pick up complete kits to make a Totoro keychain from the Teen Department starting Monday, March 15. Each kit will have instructions and all supplies needed (except scissors). You can work on the kits in your own time, or you can wait and work on them together with us during our Make and Take Monday Meetup!

Virtual Craft Meetup: Felt Totoro Keychains – Monday, March 29 at 4:00 pm on Zoom
Join us on Zoom to work on your felt Totoro keychain together! Have some company while you work on your project and ask any questions you may have. Having your felt cut out before the program will help if you are planning on working on it during this meeting. Grades 6-12. Registration required.
