8/13/2021 - Children’s and Teen Programs for September 2021

The Southbury Public Library Youth Services department is pleased to announce programming for September 2021 for children and teens. Children’s Programs:

Farmers’ Market Storytime – Thursday, September 2 from 3-6 pm at the Town Hall Green.
Stop by to see Miss Heather and Miss Katie share fall and farm themed stories while you’re browsing at the Farmers’ Market. All ages welcome.

Teddy Bear Day Storytime - Thursday, September 9 at 12 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for stories as we celebrate Teddy Bear Day! All ages welcome.

Open House Take & Make Craft – Saturday, September 11, 18 & 25
Stop by the Youth Services department every Saturday except September 4 to take home a thematic craft. Available while supplies last.

Drop-In Storytime - Monday, September 13, 20 & 27 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for stories and songs every Monday except September 6. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Food Explorers In-Person – Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00 am in Kingsley Room
Food Explorers is back in the library! Join Tiny Food Explorers for some fun with food! Come and explore new flavors and textures while playing games all about food and MyPlate! You’ll make a hands-on healthy snack that even the pickiest of eaters will be keen to try. All snack ingredients will be nut free but may contain dairy. No food will be shared. Ages 2-5 & caregivers. Registration is required

Clay Creatures Craft Online – Thursday, September 16 at 4:30 pm on Zoom
We’re making mythical creatures using air dry clay as Miss Katie shares related stories. Pick up your craft packet any time after Friday, September 10 during open library hours. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

Family Film Friday: Luca – Friday, September 17 at 6 pm in Kingsley Room
We’re back in-person with a monthly movie screening. Families are invited to watch the brand new Disney Pixar film Luca. Bring your own blankets and pillows. No food or beverages are allowed. Rated PG. All ages welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Food Explorers Online: Mini Apple Pies– Monday, September 20 at 5:00 pm on Zoom
Join the Registered Dietitians from Food Explorers and learn how to make Mini Apple Pies. Ages 7 & up and families. Registration is required.

Owl Lantern Craft Online – Thursday, September 23 at 4:30 pm on Zoom
We’re making autumn themed owl votive lanterns while Miss Katie shares related stories. Pick up your craft packet any time after Friday, September 17 during open library hours. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

STEAMonday Online: Apple Challenges – Monday, September 27 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join us for an afternoon of STEAM fun as we kick off autumn with a variety of apple challenges. Recommended for Grades 2-5.

Teen Programs:

Teen DIY-to-Go Felt Pokéball Keychain – Starting Monday, September 13
Pick up complete kits to make a Pokéball felt keychain from the Teen Department while supplies last. Each kit will have instructions and all supplies needed (except scissors). Grades 6-12. Food Explorers Online: Stuffed Bagel Balls – Wednesday, September 22 at from 5-6 pm Join Food Explorers to make Stuffed Bagel Balls! This no yeast recipe is made from Greek yogurt, and stuffed with cream cheese. Grades 6-12 and their families. Space is limited. Registration required.

Teen Advisory Board –Tuesday, September 28 from 6-7 pm in the Youth Services Tutor Corner
We are looking for creative, energetic volunteers in grades 6-12 who are interested in making a difference at the Southbury Public Library! Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members can directly influence our teen book and AV collections, teen programming and events, and other teen services. Each monthly meeting opens with a discussion about ideas for programs, materials, and more and closes out with some special volunteer projects. If you are interested in serving on the Teen Advisory Board, you can apply to be considered on our website at www.southburylibrary.org/tab.

Teen Banned Books Week Trivia –Thursday, September 30 from 6-7 pm in Kingsley Room
The last week of September is Banned Books Week- an annual event to highlight the value of free and open access to information. Join us for this trivia contest on this anything-but-trivial topic where all questions relate to different books that have been censored, challenged, or banned. Grades 6-12. Space is limited. Registration required.
