The Gloria Cachion Gallery at the Southbury Public Library will host artist Cynthia Gillette, from Thursday, September 2, 2021 through Wednesday, September 29th, 2021.
Cynthia is a Connecticut native and a locally recognized artist whose work has been sold along the east coast to private and corporate clients. Predominantly a realist, she paints in watercolor and oil. Her new work in oil involves the study of water, rocks, (a favorite) and clouds, a new passion. “I wanted to challenge myself with more complex subjects and give myself a broader scope of landscapes. I found as critics say that painting water is the most difficult, but so rewarding in the task, and that dramatic clouds against a blue sky just draw me in every time!”
A graduate of the University of Bridgeport in Graphic Design and Fine Art, Cynthia began her career in Stamford with a wonderful firm. After years there as a comp artist then art director she left to start a family. She now free-lances designing logos, instrumental music instructional covers, pamphlets, wedding signage, along with the drawing and painting of heirloom house portraits. Currently, she is working on commissioned portraits of people and pets.
Cynthia also draws preliminary art for engraved ornaments and collectibles for Woodbury Pewter and has worked in set design/painting/graphics for Main Street Ballet and Newbury Musical Theatre Company. Other clients include the Town of Middlebury, Town of Woodbury, The Leroy Anderson Foundation, Keiser Productions Inc., Ciné Med, J Peck Construction Service, Litchfield Veterinary Hospital, Stone Veterinary, Woodbury Farm, Feed & Power Equipment, The Farm – Woodbury, Prime Engineering and J. Salvatore & Sons, NY.
Past exhibits have been at The Westover Schumacher Gallery, Middlebury, The Gloria Cachion Gallery at Southbury Public Library, The Woodbury Public Library Gallery, The Middlebury Public Library and just this August, The Howard Whittemore Memorial Library in Naugatuck. Cynthia is a member of Arts Alliance of Woodbury and The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists where she was elected to appear in the exhibit “Classic Portraiture in a Digital Age”.
