12/15/2021 - Children’s and Teen Programs for January 2022

The Southbury Public Library Youth Services department is pleased to announce programming for January 2022 for children and teens. We are offering a mix of in-person and virtual events this month. Children’s Programs:

Open House Take & Make Craft – Saturday, January 8, 15, 22 & 29
Stop by the Youth Services department every Saturday to take home a thematic craft. Available while supplies last.

¡APRENDE CONMIGO! Spanish Language Program – Tuesdays & Thursdays, January 4, 6, 11 & 13 at 4:30 pm in the Brown Room.
Grades 1-3. Registration required. This program begins in December and participants should be able to attend all six sessions. Registration is required.

Drop-In Storytime – Monday, January 3, 10, 24 & 31 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for stories and songs every Monday (excluding January 17). Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Storytime with Katie – Wednesday, January 5, 12, 19 & 26 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Katie for stories and songs geared towards toddlers and older. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

First Chapter Friday Nutmegs – Friday, January 7, 14, 21 & 28 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Miss Heather introduces the 2022 Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees. Grades 3-5. No registration required.

Tiny Food Explorers – Thursday, January 13 at 11:00 am in the Kingsley Room
Join Tiny Food Explorers for some fun with food! You’ll make a hands-on healthy snack that even the pickiest of eaters will be keen to try. All snack ingredients will be nut free but may contain dairy. No food will be shared. Ages 2-5 & caregivers. Registration is required

STEAMonday: Snow Painting – Monday, January 24 at 4:15 pm in the Kingsley Room
Participants will learn how to make their own snow paint using everyday household ingredients and then will create a painting to take home. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

Sock Platypus Craft – Thursday, January 27 at 4:30 pm in the Kingsley Room
Join Miss Heather and Miss Katie to make your very own sock platypus craft. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

Teen Programs:

Teen LitLoot Book Subscription Boxes – Starting Monday, January 3
Register anytime in September for our LitLoot book subscription box and get two book selections customized to you along with some extra added on goodies in this box of book magic! If you register after Sunday, December 19, your box will be ready approximately 1 week after your registration. Grades 6-12.

Teen To-Go Craft Kits: Penguin Plush – Starting Monday, January 3
Pick up complete kits to make a Penguin Plush from the Teen Department while supplies last. Each kit will have instructions and all supplies needed (except scissors.) Kits are not limited per person, but we ask that you only take what you (and siblings or friends you are crafting with) need. Grades 6-12.

Food Explorers Online: Whoopie Pies – Wednesday, January 19 from 5-6pm on Zoom
Join Food Explorers to make Whoopie Pies! These delicious thick chocolate cakey cookies are filled with a creamy marshmallow filling (with no gelatin). Cook along with us over Zoom from the comfort of your very own kitchen. Space is limited for time to answer individual questions and walk everyone through this program. Teen Advisory Board –Tuesday, January 25 from 6-7 pm in the Youth Services Tutor Corner
We are looking for creative, energetic volunteers in grades 6-12 who are interested in making a difference at the Southbury Public Library! Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members can directly influence our teen book and AV collections, teen programming and events, and other teen services. Each monthly meeting opens with a discussion about ideas for programs, materials, and more and closes out with some special volunteer projects. If you are interested in serving on the Teen Advisory Board, you can apply to be considered on our website at www.southburylibrary.org/tab.
