5/24/2022 - The Rutledge Summer Series: Reading Beyond the Beaten Path-Birdwatching 101 on June 16, 2022

On Thursday, June 16th, 2022 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to the Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about birdwatching.

As the weather gets warmer it is a perfect time to learn about birdwatching. Join us and learn the basics of bird identification in a relaxed “no fear” atmosphere with people of similar abilities. We will cover proper binocular use and selection, how and when to use field guides effectively, how to observe birds without spooking them, proper birding attire, and spend plenty of time refining your identification/ observation skills.

Ken's interest in birds started when he was 10 years old, while watching the birds at his grandmother's feeders in Vermont, and he has been obsessed ever since. After earning a degree in 1998 in Environmental Biology and Interpretation from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, he started his career in conservation education at Westmoor Park in West Hartford, CT and quickly moved onto Connecticut Audubon Society. In 2008, Ken moved onto National Audubon, where he's the Community Conservation Manager based at the Audubon Center at Bent of the River in Southbury.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. The Rutledge Summer Series was made possible by the Charles H. and Ella Emery Rutledge Fund. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program.
