6/30/2022 - Broadway: A Biography on July 28, 2022

On Thursday, July 28th, 2022 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to the Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about the history of Broadway. How did a ridge used as a native trading route evolve into the world’s most celebrated location for theatre? And how is the commercial theatre’s development entwined with that of New York City? John Kenrick, author of Musical Theater: A History, offers this lively and fascinating “biography” of the world’s longest street, whose name is now synonymous with theater. Join us for this multimedia Zoom talk celebrating Broadway!

Entertainment historian John Kenrick has worked in the theatre at every level from amateur to Broadway, eventually serving as personal assistant to six Tony Award winning producers, including the team behind the original production of Rent. He has taught musical theatre history courses at New York University’s Steinhardt School, The New School University, and Philadelphia’s University of the Art. He is one of the curators for the new Museum of Broadway, set to open in late 2022.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. The Rutledge Summer Series was made possible by the Charles H. and Ella Emery Rutledge Fund. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program.
