7/14/2022 - May Phillips August 2022 Exhibit at Southbury Public Library

The Gloria Cachion Gallery at the Southbury Public Library will showcase the art of May Phillips from Tuesday, August 2, 2022 through Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

May Phillips’ love of painting is expressed in her work. The freshness of color is revealed in her watercolor and acrylic paintings. She is equally proficient in pen and ink drawings.

Jack Flynn, Timothy Clark, Carlton Plummer, Al Stine and other well-known artists have influenced May’s style. She has also taken a variety of art courses in Central Connecticut, The Hudson Valley, and Western Massachusetts. In addition, she has attended and taught at numerous workshops. For many years, she has taught watercolor painting and currently is teaching watercolor and pen and ink paintings at Arts Escape in Southbury, Connecticut.

In 1994 and 1998 May’s original design and painted Christmas Ornaments were selected to hang on the White House Christmas tree in the Blue Room. Her latest Murals can be seen in Nino’s Restaurant Walls in Waterbury, CT and the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Springfield, Massachusetts. She also had the honor to teach watercolor painting on a Carnival Cruise Ship.

May’s artwork has been exhibited in various Juried Art Shows and she has received several awards. She is a member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, and the Watertown Art League. She also has exhibited her artwork at the State of Connecticut Legislative Building, a variety of galleries, restaurants, and business establishments. She has chaired and juried several Art Shows. Many of May’s artworks are included in numerous private collections. Her latest artwork can be seen at Center Frame and Art Gallery in West Hartford, CT.

The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30am to 9:00pm. The exhibit will also be online too as a virtual gallery.
